History of Rose Haggar Elementary
Rose Haggar Elementary School opened in 1995 during a period of rapid growth in West Plano and reflects a strong tradition of community partnership and philanthropy. The school is named in honor of Rose Mary Haggar, a devoted supporter of the arts and civic causes in North Texas. She was married to Joseph Marion Haggar Sr., who founded the nationally recognized Haggar Clothing Company, a business that grew from a small Dallas enterprise into one of the country’s leading menswear manufacturers. The Haggar family became well known not only for business success but also for generous contributions to education, culture and community development throughout the region.
The land on which the school sits was donated by their daughter, Rose Mary Haggar Vaughn, and her husband, Ed Vaughn. Their gift of 11 acres provided space not only for the campus but also for an adjoining city park, reinforcing the family’s belief in creating places where children and families could learn, gather and grow together. For Rose Mary Haggar Vaughn, the opening of the school was described as a dream come true — a lasting investment in the children of Plano and a meaningful way to honor her family’s legacy of service.
Since opening its doors, Rose Haggar Elementary has served generations of students and families in Plano ISD. In the spring and summer of 2017, the campus underwent significant renovations designed to modernize and enhance the learning environment. Updates included new flooring and ceilings, redesigned teacher workspaces and state-of-the-art furniture to support collaboration, creativity and flexible learning. These improvements ensured that the campus continued to meet the needs of 21st-century learners while maintaining the welcoming, community-centered spirit envisioned by the Haggar family.
Today, Rose Haggar Elementary stands as a testament to the power of philanthropy, public education and community partnership — continuing a tradition of opportunity and excellence that began with a family committed to giving back.
